Whether or not someone likes you or dislikes you can really make or break a person. Friends provide all the needs the one self can use at that time and in the future. For one of them being a need for survival because in middle childhood friendship is based on people liking you which then determines their popularity status. Also discussed in this article is the individual need for success, power, status, approval, autonomy, and etc. It also expresses the concerns of rejection in children at this age and it affects them. How this influenced my thinking: This helped my understanding of why it is important for us to connect with others and increase our social skills. The habit forming patters of socialization developed at an early age impact how we relate to people as we become older. It discusses some of the factors that allows a child to keep a friend and the possible outcomes when a child is rejected. This article also discussed that it is imperative that a parent understand when a child is lonely or just simply wants to be alone. How this influenced my thinking: I found it interesting that like adults children need their alone time. It explain what to expect the question to be at certain stages and how much information to give and how to present it. how has this influenced my thinking: I have a 7 and a 9 year old and I am very interested to know as much as possible about this topic.
